9:00 am (approximately)  Presentation -  CAPT John ‘JJ” Mackin, USN (Ret)  “USS Colorado (SSN-788) Commissioning”

USS Colorado (SSN 788) is the 15th Virginia Class submarine. Currently under Construction in Groton, Connecticut, it is scheduled to be commissioned in late September or early October of 2017. The presentation will provide a brief introduction to the submarine force, a history of previous ships named USS Colorado and the efforts of the Commissioning Committee to support the commissioning and the crew.

 Out of town Attendees - Boulder is close to Rocky Mountain National Park (, Brainard Lake NFS Recreation area and lots of Boulder Open Space with hiking and picnic facilities available.  If anyone is interested, Dick Smith would be glad to arrange some kind of visit to one of these areas if you want to stay over on Saturday night.  You may want to consider a stay in Estes Park on Saturday night but it is recommended reservations be made now -  go to https://www.trivago.com or any travel search site and search for hotels in Estes Park.  Elk Bugling - During the September-October mating season, bull elk stage their own passion play. The characteristic rutting call of bulls can be heard from just before dusk to dawn. Head into Rocky Mountain National Park and stop at Horseshoe Park.
